This course introduces issues surrounding the provision of reproductive health care, including basic biology principles, the historical regulation of hygiene products for menstruation, contraception, pregnancy, and pregnancy termination; the current legal landscape of pregnancy termination care at the federal and state levels; and the legal challenges to such laws, including the development of shield laws and related issues. Topics such as the challenges to FDA regulation of mifepristone, changes in reproductive health care privacy laws, legal status of embryos and changes in fertility treatment related laws, surrogacy and adoptions laws will also be covered. The course will address these issues and topics from a perspective of our healthcare delivery system, including the impacts on health care providers and the delivery of care to patients.
